A man accused in a series of burglaries in the Hammocks dating back to 2025 was arrested on Thursday, authorities said.
Jesus Ortega, 26, is facing several charges, including burglary, criminal mischief and grand theft.
According to authorities, the burglaries first started in November, and Ortega has burglarized nearly 10 vehicles since then.
Arrest reports said that an investigation showed Ortega would target vehicles in the Hammocks area and would also steal power tools and work equipment from those cars and trucks.
Surveillance video captured Ortega arriving at several areas while he drove a different vehicle each time, and then he broke into vehicles, stole tools and left, the reports said.
NBC6 on Saturday spoke to one woman, who said she lost thousands of dollars from Ortega’s burglary, but now feels relieved after his arrest.
“Now we can leave our truck out, now we’re safer,” she said. “It, you know, feels less stressed out. Definitely, when we got out on vacation, now we’re going to feel a lot more safer to leave our cars out, for sure.”
