Cal Thomas calls progressive Democrats communists and enemies of the Constitution (“Democratic Socialists’ agenda reveals domestic enemies,” Star-Advertiser, Column, July 21). In fact, Republican Theodore Roosevelt was an early progressive promoting labor rights and worker safety, protections for consumers from unsafe food and drugs, the reduction of political corruption and the conservation of natural resources.
