Residents across Philadelphia are taking extra precautions to protect their deliveries as reported package thefts continue to increase across the city.
According to police data obtained by NBC10, the most reported package thefts in 2025 occurred in the Philadelphia Police Department’s 22nd District, which includes North Philadelphia neighborhoods such as Strawberry Mansion and Brewerytown. The 3rd District in South Philadelphia ranked second this year, after leading the city in both 2023 and 2024, and includes neighborhoods such as Queen Village and Bella Vista.
Mark Brugger, who lives in Queen Village, said his household closely monitors deliveries after experiencing package theft.
“We see it on our ring doorbell, and we run to get it, or I make sure to call somebody at home to make sure we pick it up right away. We also track packages,” Brugger said.
Every neighbor NBC10 spoke with in Queen Village said they had at least one package stolen during the past three years. Many homes now have lock boxes outside to help protect deliveries.
Brugger believes the neighborhood’s proximity to Interstate 95 may contribute to the problem.
“I think it’s access to 95 since we’re so close to 95. They can steal a package and get away pretty fast,” Brugger said.
Police data also shows reports of stolen packages have increased year over year.
At this point in 2024, the 3rd District led the city with 159 reported package thefts.
The following year, the 22nd District moved into the top spot with 165 reports. This year, the district again leads Philadelphia with 185 reported package thefts.
Investigators say many package theft victims never report the crime to police, meaning the actual number of thefts is likely higher.
Jamie Weeks told NBC10 she worries whenever a package sits outside her home.
“I just texted my husband to tell him to grab the package that was delivered because it’s been an hour and it’s hopefully still there,” Weeks said.
The 26th District, which includes Fishtown and Kensington, also consistently ranks among the top three Philadelphia police districts for reported package thefts.
