Tuesday was the 230th day of the year and for the 100th time, our high temperature was above 80°! (Forty-three of those days have been 90° or higher.) That’s a record number of “warm” days to this point in the year and better illustrates how quickly our harsh winter turned into an unusually warm spring and summer.
Skies have been clearing overnight and the day ahead looks to be hot and sunny, but noticeably less humid. Most of the D.C. metro will reach 90° on Wednesday.
Clouds will begin to arrive later in the evening and sunshine will be very limited from Thursday all the way into Sunday afternoon.
There could be a bit of rain first thing Thursday morning but most of the rain will arrive during the afternoon. How long we have to wait for the first drops of rain will make a big difference in how warm we get. Plan for mid- to upper 80s before we’re cooled down by the raindrops.
Friday won’t be a washout but some scattered showers still look likely in the afternoon.
Saturday is quickly heading into washout category. A long period of fairly steady rain looks likely starting Saturday morning and perhaps lasting well into the afternoon.
Intermittent showers Saturday evening also look to last into the first part of Sunday morning. Skies should begin to clear out for Sunday afternoon and early next week will come with a bit of a September-ish feel: highs in the low-80s and overnight lows in the 50s and 60s.
