Michael Olise is a man with many roots. The Bayern Munich star could have represented Nigeria, England and Algeria on the international stage if he chose to, but in the end the former Manchester City youngster went with France. His education happened in England, though. Not only did he (as mentioned) spend time in the academy of Qatar’s puppet club, he spent the majority of his footballing education in Chelsea, London. A move to Reading finally saw him break through, though, and he followed that stint with a move to another London club, Crystal Palace.
All in all, Olise has spent the majority of his life in London and, clearly, he retains a lot of affection for England’s capital.
Asked in an interview with highsnobiety which city he would choose to live in forever if he were pressed to make a choice, Olise had a clear answer:
“London. When I’m in London, I feel at home,” the Bayern man said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Given there is a lot of uncertainty at the moment over the future of Olise, this answer may worry fans. But this is not a man scared of pushing himself, given his reaction to getting thrown out by Chelsea and Manchester City or his move to Germany. One should not expect Olise to rely on comfort to dictate his transfer decisions.
What should generate uncertainty for anyone who has visited London is why so many people like it. It always rains there, it is cloudy and not all that clean. Where is the appeal? That is just another of life’s many mysteries…
