A man is facing charges after he was accused of threatening a victim with a gun while impersonating an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent in Miami-Dade, authorities said.
Jonathan Christian Gonzalez-Reyes, 45, was arrested Wednesday on charges including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, falsely impersonating an officer, unlawful use of a police badge or insignia, and prohibited use of certain blue lights, Miami-Dade jail records showed.
According to an arrest report, on July 8, Gonzalez-Reyes was seen on surveillance video at the victim’s place of work, a food truck on Northwest 67th Avenue.
Gonzalez-Reyes approached the victim with a gun and badge on his hip and told the victim he has a top position with ICE and would help him with immigration issues if the victim helped him in return, the report said.
The victim said Gonzalez-Reyes wanted money in exchange for protection, and said he had made threats to harm the victim’s son before he told Gonzalez-Reyes to lave and not return, the report said.
According to the victim, Gonzalez-Reyes also threatened to pistol-whip his son and plant drugs at the business so he would get shut down, the report said.
At one point, Gonzalez-Reyes pulled out the gun and pointed it at the victim while making the threats, the report said.
Gonzalez-Reyes then got back in his car and while driving off turned on police sirens in his vehicle, the report said.
On Wednesday, Gonzalez-Reyes was detained during a traffic stop.
He denied knowing the victim or going to his business, and denied brandishing a weapon but later said he was just showing it to the victim and had no bad intentions, the report said.
Gonzalez-Reyes was booked into jail and expected to appear in bond court. Attorney information wasn’t available.
