A Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputy just became the first in the country to secure a contract with UFC following his victory on the show Dana White’s Contender Series.
“What a fight! What a moment!” Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz said in a post on X, along with a video showing how deputies at a watch party in Doral leapt into the air when Hernandez came out on top. “Deputy Luis Hernandez just earned his UFC contract with a second-round submission on Dana White’s Contender Series.”
Hernandez, a full-time sheriff’s office deputy and a member of its Priority Response Team, was an underdog in the 185-pound middleweight bout against 6-foot-4 Hugo Guillon.
But he submitted Guillon with a rear-naked choke just a minute and change into the second round, the sheriff’s office said, “and moments later, UFC President Dana White awarded him a UFC contract, a remarkable leap from undefeated regional prospect to fighter on the roster of the world’s largest MMA promotion.”
Hernandez, who stands 5 feet and 9 inches tall, entered the fight inside the Meta APEX in Las Vegas with a perfect 7-0 record, all wins by submission or knockout.

MDSO said he started training eight years ago with a few central goals: “to be in the UFC, to showcase his talents before his home crowd in Miami at the Kaseya Center and to be atop his weight class.”
