You make life miserable enough so people are prepared to give up their freedom in exchange for crumbs. All borrowed from future generations that are unborn, and paid by.....well, the very same people who you are making their lives miserable. You just take a big "management fee" for the bad performative act. You then use manufactured crises to rush in emergency powers that would otherwise take you DECADES to convince average people would be in their best interests. Usually total control of their finances and personal data. You dangle the boogeyman of "________" in front of them to scare them. My guess is the next "______" after Russia, Muslims, Communism, China would either be aliens or AI. They need this factory of fear to keep churning out fear.
Rogue AI plays neatly into this plan. But you see, Western elites are not like Chinese elites. China plans ahead. The Western elites only see short term profits. When rogue AI destroys everybody's jobs and the economy, you cannot have people buy things any longer. Which will hurt their profits. But they do not see that far ahead yet. Like they failed to see that Iran was no Venezuela.
