Allentown Mayor Matt Tuerk is condemning flyers targeting undocumented immigrants that police say were found near Dieruff High School on the city’s east side.
The flyer, titled “September 30th — The Day of Reclamation,” addresses people living in Allentown and claims, without citing sources, that one in 10 people in the city is undocumented.
The flyer includes a cross as well as phone numbers for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Department of Homeland Security. It calls on people to report suspected undocumented immigrants to DHS and ICE on Sept. 30 “to take back your city.”
In a statement on social media, Tuerk said he wants everyone in Allentown to know that any effort to intimidate residents will not be tolerated.
“Absolutely no place for this reprehensible behavior and thinking,” Pa. State Rep. Ce-Ce Gerlach wrote in a Facebook post about the flyer.
He also said the Allentown Police Department will make every effort to bring those responsible to justice as they investigate.
