After a pleasant Saturday, our weather turns more uncomfortable for Sunday. We start the day in the low 50s with increasing clouds in the morning.
The chance for showers is low in the morning, and if you need to be outside, it’s best to get out early. Rain chances increase significantly by lunchtime. This means, you should bring the rain gear if you’re heading to Gillette Stadium to watch the Patriots take on the Steelers at 1 p.m.
The rain should be mostly light to moderate, so flooding is not expected to be a problem for most cities, but watch in low-lying areas if heavier downpours occur.
The rain lasts through the evening on Sunday and into early Monday morning. By the time it wraps up, most areas will receive around a half inch to an inch of rain. Some southern communities like the Islands and coastal Rhode Island may get slightly higher amounts.
We have cooler air from the north combined with clouds and rain that keep highs in the low 60s Sunday. That’s about 10 degrees below average.
The cooler-than-average weather sticks around for the week ahead. Despite more sunshine by Monday afternoon, highs stay in the mid 60s. It’s even cooler on Tuesday, the first day of Fall. Highs barely reach 60 degrees, and it’ll be similar on Wednesday.
Looking long-range, a coastal low may develop by the end of the week and lead to breezy days and passing showers.
