A man was arrested after allegedly attacking his stepfather with a knife inside a home in Oak Park, authorities said Friday.
Chad Nelson, 40, was taken into custody following the incident that took place at a home on East Sunny Vista Avenue around 8 p.m. Thursday, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.
Officials say deputies responded after a 70-year-old woman called 911 to report her adult son was attacking her husband with a knife. When deputies arrived, they found the suspect standing over his 80-year-old stepfather, who was bleeding on the living room floor.
The sheriff’s office noted that the 80-year-old was heard telling deputies, “You saved my life,” as they took Nelson out of the home. The stepfather was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators say the situation unfolded after a family discussion, in which Nelson allegedly became enraged and then assaulted his stepfather using an approximately 10-inch butcher knife from the kitchen.
Nelson was booked on several felony charges, including assault with a deadly weapon, battery causing serious bodily injury and elder abuse, according to authorities. He remains in custody with bail set at $200,000.
He is expected to appear in court on Monday.
