Firefighters quickly stopped the forward progress of a brush fire that burned in Thousand Oaks on Sunday.
The Kanan Fire broke out sometime before 2:15 p.m. in the foothills near the North Ranch Open Space. The blaze ran south, prompting first responders to station at Featherwood Street and Brunston Court to protect nearby homes.
By 3 p.m., crews successfully halted the forward progress of the blaze. It’s unclear what caused the fire.
The fire comes as increased temperatures made for a heat wave in the Southland.
