A car that collided with an Amtrak train in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday created quite the chaotic scene as flames and heavy smoke were seen.
According to Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue, at 7:30 p.m., crews received reports of a collision between an Amtrak train and a vehicle along the tracks at Northwest Ninth Avenue and West Prospect Road.
Fire rescue said callers told them that a vehicle was on fire.
Once at the scene, crews extinguished the flames, and after boarding the train, no injuries were reported.
Video captured flames shooting in the air, with a massive cloud of smoke hanging over an Amtrak train.
NBC6 spoke to a witness, who wanted to remain anonymous.
“We heard the train screeching and coming to a stop,” the witnesses said. “Then we looked off, and then we see smoke and fire erupting.”
There were passengers aboard the train at the time.
“We could see people running in the train on where the fire was,” the witness said. “So it was pretty crazy. Everything happened so fast.”
It’s still unclear exactly how the car ended up colliding with the train.
An investigation remains active.
