An abandoned railway trestle near the East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) caught fire Saturday night in Oakland, according to firefighters.
Just after 10 p.m. on Saturday, Oakland Fire said crews were battling a fire on the old train trestles near the EBMUD plant. They had asked residents living 3 miles west of the intersection of West Grand Avenue and Wake Avenue to keep their windows and doors closed until air quality conditions could improve.
Although firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to the building, they had to battle spot fires in the yard at the treatment plant.
On Sunday, fire crews said they were cooling hot spots on the trestles and then will get heavy equipment to pull down the still smoldering infrastructure.
