Not sure you'd have much of a gripe if you considered how the free market works. If Porter knows that in the nfl market, there's a team that would pay him, let's say $28 million/year for 3 years guaranteed, why would he accept considerably less than that from the Steelers? Let's say the Steelers were to offer $23 million/year for 2 years guaranteed. Sure, that's a lot of money for almost everyone else. But if Porter just accepted, it would mean that he'd be giving the billionaire Steelers ownership $10 million, the difference between the two options (and also one less year of guaranteed salary). Why does Porter owe it to the Steelers to accept less than another team would give him, which would be less than his market value?
As for Brady, it's an open secret that he was being paid extra salary under the table by Kraft so that the Cheatriots could get around the salary cap.
