A teenager who allegedly tried to burglarize a home in Fremont last Friday was fatally shot by a person in the residence, police said Monday.
Officers initially responded at about 12:13 p.m. Friday to a reported shooting at the home on San Pedro Drive, according to police. Once on scene, officers found a teenage boy suffering from a gunshot wound. The teen was taken to a local trauma center, where he later died.
Police said an investigation revealed two armed teens allegedly forced their way into an apartment and assaulted the two occupants. During a struggle, one of the occupants managed to gain control of the suspects’ gun and fire it at them, striking one of them.
The second suspect fled from the scene but was later found and taken into custody, police said. He was booked into juvenile hall for residential burglary and felony assault with a semiautomatic firearm.
The people in the apartment suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.
Police said the shooting is being investigated as the city’s third homicide of 2026.
The investigation is ongoing.
