One person has been found dead after two glider planes collided mid-air near Edinburg, according to NBC affiliate WNYT.
New York State Police say it happened in the area of Wheeler Road in Edinburg, about an hour’s drive from Lake George.
The wreckage from that plane was discovered in a remote area off of Sand Lake Rd., according to WNYT. The pilot aboard that glider was killed. No one else was on board.
A WNYT news crew spotted the other plane, which had landed safely at Plateau Sky Ranch Airport. The pilot of that glider was unhurt, police said.
Police have not released the name of the pilot who was killed.
The Federal Aviation Administration didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
