A beach hazard statement remains in effect for parts of the Chicago area along Lake Michigan, with high waves and rip currents possible.
According to the latest updates from the NBC 5 Storm Team, winds out of the north are continuing to blow down Lake Michigan, churning up the water and making for dangerous swimming conditions for the remainder of the weekend.
As a result, the National Weather Service has issued a beach hazard statement through at least Sunday night for Cook County in Illinois, along with Lake and Porter counties in Indiana.
According to the alert, waves of three-to-six feet are expected along the lake, with dangerous currents also possible, posing challenges for even skilled swimmers.
Residents are being asked to stay out of the water, and to avoid piers, jetties, breakwalls and other waterfront installations.
While swimming conditions aren’t expected to be good this weekend, temperatures are certainly going to be pleasant, with highs in the mid-70s and low humidity expected on Sunday and again on Monday according to the NBC 5 Storm Team.
A chance of storms will return to the forecast on Wednesday, but it will be a one-day affair, as dry conditions and highs in the upper-70s and low-80s will be on the menu for the remainder of the work week.
